Sigma Quattro DP2 Comparison – Part 7 – Morgan the Whippet Resolution Test

I’ve included this final test for my girlfriend Polly, who insisted I took a pic of her pooch Morgan, and to fair to Polly it’s a good test to see the detail these cameras resolve.

We spent a good few minutes comparing the two photos to see which was best … and I think the Merrill just shades it, but if you have to look for that long then it’s time to do something more interesting with your life … and other factors beyond IQ come into play.

Just one more post to come!

  1. Well, thx for your effort, first. The little time you felt free to spend on comparing:. which part exactly did you look at? Looking at the dog’s nose the Quattro wins hands down. But obviously there’s somethin wrong with the DP3 image, missing clean detail and sharpness. Either it got wrong focus or it’s shaken (by you or the dog’s head). It’s a pity, since this is the important one … the building comparisons seem not that fine: In 1:1 view the Quattro looses, of course, since it has less texture accentuation and the smaller scale due to it’s wider focal length. But here we could have known, if the Quattro resolves more detail anyway, since at least the first layer comes with 19 MP …

  2. Hi, thanks for the comment. On the Morgan the dog pictures we looked specifically around the collar area as on both the DP2 and DP3 shots this area looks to be focus. As I say in the post, IMHO there’s not much to choose between the cameras, not enough anyway for me to choose between one or the other.
